The Krk Vela Placa webcam streams live from Vela Placa, the main square of Krk old town on the island of Krk. From a raised position on the edge of the square, it looks straight across the stone paving to the café terraces and the old facades that close the square. Hosted by Tourist Board of the City of Krk.
What you can see on the webcam
- The hexagonal stone cistern crown in the middle of the square, with carved reliefs including the winged lion of St Mark
- The flagpole with the red banner of the City of Krk
- Café terraces and the facades of Volsonis and Galerija Stanić on the right
- The onion-shaped top of a bell tower rising above the rooftops in the background
Seven centuries of town life on Vela Placa
Vela Placa was probably the main square already in Roman times and is first mentioned in documents in 1263. In the Middle Ages it was the administrative heart of Krk, with the city hall and two loggias. The Square Tower, built at the end of the 15th century and used as the city hall in the 16th century, still faces the square with its 24-hour clock, first mentioned in 1538 and returned to its place in 1995. Live view: Vela Placa in Krk town
Mornings are the quietest time to see the square and its architecture. On summer evenings the terraces fill up and Vela Placa becomes the meeting point of the old town. Open the Vela Placa timelapse to see how the day has developed on the square.
